'WAITING FOR THE STRIKE'

In order to catch a tunny, small rowing boats were lowered in position from the yacht’s deck. A purpose built harness, complete with a short rod and holster, was strapped onto the brave individual, in this case Jim Prioleau. The baited line was then dangled in the water waiting for the tunny to strike.

The Tunny Club
‘The Tunny Club’, an exhibition by Jamie Foale and Tim Wace, was held in September 2014 in Old Bond Street and was devoted to telling the story of a group of friends as they fished for the mighty 'Tunny' - bluefin tuna weighing up to 800 pounds. Following the group from their early
expeditions in 1934 to the final war-ravaged jaunts in 1949, the photographs depict forgotten time off the east coast of England
reminiscent of a Hemingway era. For enquiries, please send us an email here.
